Oat Milk Hot Chocolate - The Stress-Free Christmas (1)

I don’t just save hot chocolate for Christmas I love it all year long. If it’s too hot I’ll make a frozen hot chocolate but in general, I’ll drink it anytime.

The only problem is I’m lactose-intolerant. I don’t always let that get in the way of hot chocolate but it’s great to have a dairy-free option as well. The problem is a lot of dairy-free options out there aren’t great so I decided to try and make my own and it turned out really good.

My dairy-free milk of choice is oat milk and my favorite oat milk is Oatly. I’m allergic to nuts and don’t love having a lot of soy so it’s perfect for me. Plus Oatly was made for coffee and gets nice and frothy which really adds to this recipe.

Normally the best rich hot chocolate has melted real chocolate and you can make a dairy-free hot chocolate like that as well but it’s also nice to have a quick hot chocolate option and this is perfect for that.

My husband loves milk and has no issues with dairy. He also isn’t a huge fan of alternative milk. I gave him some of this one to try and he said it was not as good as the fancy hot chocolate I make him with real milk but it was better than normal hot chocolate made from a mix. This is high praise from a dairy milk fan!

I was nervous about it as well. I love Oatly in coffee but that’s the only way I’ve had it so wasn’t sure what it would be like in hot chocolate. I have to agree with my husband that the melted chocolate type of hot chocolate in milk is better but for an instant type of hot chocolate, this is really good. I think this will be my go-to hot chocolate as it’s far better for me and still really good.

You can make this with other dairy-free milk but it may not froth like mine. Look for barista blends if you are wanting a frothy hot chocolate.

How to Make the Best Oat Milk Hot Chocolate

My favorite way to make hot chocolate is with a hot chocolate maker. I told you I love my hot chocolate so last year I got a hot chocolate maker and it’s one of my favorite kitchen gadgets now!

The best thing about it is that you can use it for frothing milk for coffee and several other uses so you can use it all year long. I use it about once a week, even more during the winter months.

My husband and I both find that when we use the hot chocolate maker the hot chocolate turns out perfect and we can drink less because with all the froth it feels like you are having more than you are.

I love that you just put your milk and the hot chocolate mix into the pitcher, turn it on and it gets it to the perfect temperature and froths it better than any other frother I have used.

With this recipe, I simply mix the dry ingredients in a cup pour the oat milk into the pitcher and then add the dry ingredients, the machine will do the rest.

This recipe can be made on the stove with a pot but if you make a lot of hot chocolate or coffee at home I highly recommend the Secura 4 in 1 Electric Automatic Milk Frother and Hot Chocolate Maker. You won’t regrate it.
